MEET YOUR CANDIDATE
Roger Belknap is a father, husband, and life-long West Michigander. He is a small business owner and has over 20 years of public service experience working for the Michigan Department of Transportation, Village of Spring Lake, and Kent County Road Commission. Roger earned both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in Public and Non-Profit Administration and has held several licenses and certifications for managing public utilities.
Roger is grateful for the freedom and opportunity afforded to American citizens. He seeks re-election to continue engagement with local, regional, and state government officials on policy, environment, and infrastructure matters to help develop conservative solutions for issues facing families and small businesses in our community.
Since starting his term in 2023, Commissioner Belknap has represented Ottawa County on the following boards and commissions:
- Central Dispatch Authority Policy Board
- Economic Development Corporation and Brownfield Redevelopment Authority
- Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy Committee
- West Michigan Regional Planning Commission
- WestPlan Policy Committee
- Groundwater Board, serving as Chair
For the Board of Commissioners, Commissioner Belknap serves on the following committees:
- Planning & Policy Committee, serving as Chair
- Finance & Administration Committee, serving as Vice-Chair
- Rules, Broadband, and Strategic Planning Committees
Commissioner Belknap also has participated with the Ottawa County Agriculture Education Committee since its founding in 2022. In 2024, he was excited with the assignment to represent the Ottawa County Parks and Recreation Commission.
Since taking office, Commissioner Belknap:
- Voted to build and expand the Department of Veteran Affairs to prioritize our heroes of freedom
- Voted to approve funding for body cameras for the Sheriff’s Department
- Voted to close the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Department.
- The department promoted progressive ideology and divisive racial policies.
- This change returned county operations to focus on character, excellence, and merit.
- This also saves the county $286,000 per year.

- Voted to hire Kallman Legal Group, one of the most experienced constitutional law firms in Michigan
- Voted to reject unneeded and sometimes harmful grants
- Voted to increase pay to comparable levels for the Sheriff’s Department, helping attract and retain high quality law enforcement personnel
